What is this DVI cable for?

I simply bought a new monitor and it come with a DVI cable, it say is optional to hook it up so I didnt. Just wondering what it is for.

if u dont hold a dvi connection on the rear legs of ur computer dont worry just about it. it just provides a sharper picture on larger monitors.
