What cause my mouse cursor to preserve jump adjectives over the peak and how can I fix it?

of late keeps flickering and jump around all over the place. when i'm in the region of to click on something it just disappear from the peak.

is it a rollerball mouse? if so remove the cover on the bottom and check out the internal rollers for gunk and clean near a q-tip(gently).

If it is an infrared mouse what surface are you using it on(relective surfaces make them step whacky).
Using Vista. What kind of mouse, wireless, telecommunication, laser, etc. We need for a time more than that.
