What are the advantages of a multi monitor setup for my notebook?

What are the advantages of a multi monitor setup for my workstation? And what is the ‘3d’ setting (NVIDIA) I keep audible range about? Thanks guys.

most cards own dvi and vga out. so, buy a cheap dvi vga adapter and get to it.

I don't know nearly the 3d bit, I think its really aimed to the brand new windows vista 3d porthole feature -- which is lame, but requires a dyed-in-the-wool unit (vid card) to run it
